Alexander Son of Aeropus (334 BC)

  • Earliest Plot
  • Alexandros-Commander of Thessalian Cavalry
  • Brothers involved in plot to kill Phillip.
  • Communicating secretly with Darius, planed to kill AG.
  • Parmenio discovers plot and informs AG
  • AG calls Council of Companions to decide what action to take
  • Alexandros killed
  • Shows Parmenio’s loyalty.

Philip the Arcanian Doctor (333 BC) 

  • AG falls ill at Tarsus before Issus.
  • Doctor Philip prepares a medicine for him
  • AG receives letter from Parmenio claiming it was poison
  • AG drank the medicine as Philip read the letter.
  • Turns out not to be poison.
  • Parmenio was wrong but loyal.
  • AG has good sense of judgement and trust.

 

The Plot of Philotas (330 BC) 

  • Philotas (Parmenio’s son) was arrogant about AG.”a mere boy who owed his title of rulers to their effort”.
  • Philotas doesn’t let Cebalinus speak to AG when he claims it’s important.
  • This happens twice.
  • Cebalinus gets someone else to take him to AG. Tells AG about a plot to kill him. (Dimnos). Tells him that Philotas wouldn’t let him through.
  • AG was furious and orders him and Parmenio to be killed.
  • Parmenio killed as AG feared his popularity and power.
  • Philotas didn’t actually know about the plot. Many accusations against him.
  • Arrian-Philotas was guilty.
  • Plutarch-Philotas was innocent and killed due to his character. Claims that he was not aware of the plot.
