- Shows Parmenio’s loyalty.
Philip the Arcanian Doctor (333 BC)
- AG falls ill at Tarsus before Issus.
- Doctor Philip prepares a medicine for him
- AG receives letter from Parmenio claiming it was poison
- AG drank the medicine as Philip read the letter.
- Turns out not to be poison.
- Parmenio was wrong but loyal.
- AG has good sense of judgement and trust.
The Plot of Philotas (330 BC)
- Philotas (Parmenio’s son) was arrogant about AG.”a mere boy who owed his title of rulers to their effort”.
- Philotas doesn’t let Cebalinus speak to AG when he claims it’s important.
- This happens twice.
- Cebalinus gets someone else to take him to AG. Tells AG about a plot to kill him. (Dimnos). Tells him that Philotas wouldn’t let him through.
- AG was furious and orders him and Parmenio to be killed.
- Parmenio killed as AG feared his popularity and power.
- Philotas didn’t actually know about the plot. Many accusations against him.
- Arrian-Philotas was guilty.
- Plutarch-Philotas was innocent and killed due to his character. Claims that he was not aware of the plot.
