Regularly record the first 10 mins of the Nuacht in Irish.
then tape the first 10 mins of the news in English.
initially if you have no grasp of Irish you wont understand the Irish version.
when you listen to the Irish first then the English then the Irish the words will make sense.

Example on the Nuacht do bhi timpiste i baile atha cliath inniu.

example on the news there was a crash in dublin today.

Most people would know that the Irish name for Dublin is Baile Atha Cliath. but by replaying both versions the learner would then figure out that timpiste is an accident and inniu is today.

The good thing about this way of learning Irish is you hear it been spoken as a language plus you get a new vocabulary from local news and international affairs. This will also assist with essay writing. I used this technique to learn to speak conversational Irish when i was 26
